Immigrants face many problems when they come to the United States and try to adjust to life here. For instance, they usually must learn a new language or a new form of English, they must find housing, and a job. But there are other, subtler, unexpected problems that they face. For instance, Dumas writes: “All of us immigrants knew that moving to America would be fraught with challenges, but none of us thought that our names would be such an obstacle.”
