Select and reserve the company you wish to research throughout the course. Each student is required to choose a different company. With few exceptions, you must choose any publicly-traded company that:
is headquartered in the U.S. (Hint: Look for a company on the NYSE or NASDAQ),has been publicly-traded for at least three years to give you plenty of data, ratios, etc. for future analysis, andis not a bank, financial services company, insurance company, or real estate investment trust (REIT) as the ratios used to evaluate financial institutions are beyond the scope of this course.Next, please respond to the following three prompts:
What does the company do? What are its key sources of revenue?The goal of every business is to maximize shareholder wealth. Through the lens of your company, how does it maximize shareholder wealth?Other than maximizing shareholder wealth, investing socially responsibly is imperative. Through the lens of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) rules, how does your company apply policies to maximize value? How does your company attract capital? How does your company provide employment and offer benefits to its community? (Hint: Refer to Principles for Responsible Investment for more information on ESG and responsible investing.)
