DISCUSSION 1:

Callie works in a large office that employs nearly 20 staff members. The office has a breakroom where the staff can rest and relax during breaks and lunches. Recently someone has been leaving spills and trash behind. The manager asks Callie to compose a message to the staff. Callie decides it’s most effective to post this note on the refrigerator:

Step 2: Create a New Thread for Your Initial Post by Wednesday at 11:59pm EST
Respond to the following prompts in your initial post:

Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the sender’s (Callie’s) communication strategy.
If you were the receiver of this message (the audience), how would you feel after reading this message?
Pretend you are Callie’s manager. What feedback would you offer Callie regarding her tone and word choices?

DISCUSSION 2:
Step 1: Read the Discussion Background:
Kaleena, a UMA student, has a difficult decision to make. Her sister, Raquel, recently lost her job and and moved in. Today, Raquel asks Kaleena if her boyfriend can also move in. Kaleena does not get along with her sister’s boyfriend. She is afraid that having him there will cause stress and damage relationships. Step 2: Create a new thread and answer all three parts of the initial prompt below:
Respond to the following prompts in your initial post:

Decide whether Kaleena should make her decision based on an emotional response or using intellectual standards and explain why.
Human beings don’t always make logical or rational decisions. Give an example of a situation where logic may not help you make the best decision.
Think of a time when you had to make a difficult decision. Describe whether or not logic was helpful in determining what to do to resolve the problem you faced.
