Fahrenheit 451 Playlist Project Assignment

This project asks you to think critically about Fahrenheit 451, its characters, plot, and themes, in selecting songs to accompany the narrative. You might think of the songs as a playlist that correlates to the novel or perhaps as a soundtrack (Choose any song you like from anywhere, such as online whatever, but make sure you identify the song, author, and few explanations

For each of the novel’s three sections, you should select two songs that connect to your reading of the novel. You need to write an explanation describing how each song relates to or illustrates some aspects of each section of the narrative, providing textual evidence from both the novel and the songs to prove the relationship you are claiming.

Your explanation should be approximately 250 words for each song, but you can choose to write a single 500-word argument for two songs of one section, if you prefer. For example, for the first section of the novel, “The Hearth and the Salamander,” you might choose to write approximately 250 words for each song, including evidence from the novel and quotes from the song’s lyrics to connect the two or you can write a single 500-word argument supported by textual evidence from the book, quoting from both songs to explain how the lyrics relate to the novel’s characters, plots, and themes. Either way, your thesis statement—your argument—is the claim you make about how the song is linked to the novel.

Assessment for this project will be based on:

• Accuracy and understanding of the novel

• Communication of arguments that link song lyrics to the literary text

• Sufficient textual evidence from novel and song lyrics to support arguments

• MLA format, minimal errors in grammar and mechanics

Your final project will amount to approximately 1500 words.
