Choose a well-known person who has received a DSM-5 diagnosis for a disorder. Discuss how well the DSM-5 criteria fit the person in a 5–6 page analysis. Examine the person’s quality of life and the extent to which the disorder hindered or facilitated their success. Consider the diagnosis’s potential therapies in detail.

Introduction

When symptomatic people are presented to medical professionals, DSM diagnoses are given, which may lead to labeling. But if we keep in mind that some groups and ages are presumably more susceptible to environmental factors than others, our comprehension of the psychological situations that people experience is improved. The best treatment will come from carefully choosing a diagnosis and making sure the client can clearly see it.

For this evaluation, you are asked to think critically about the current diagnostic system and the medical model of mental illness.

Assessment Guidelines

For this evaluation:

Choose a notable person who has received a DSM-5 diagnosis for a specific condition.
Discuss and cite each DSM-5 criterion that the client meets or fails to meet in order to describe the diagnosis.
Assess the person’s quality of life in relation to their disorder:
What obstacles or restrictions has the disorder placed on their success?
How did it help them succeed more?
Find a journal article that explains this disorder, then compare how the diagnosis is described there to the behaviors the person exhibits.
Analyze the recommended treatments for the chosen person’s diagnosis and provide evidence to back them up.
A recent, peer-reviewed published publication should have at least one of these therapies.
Discern how, as a professional in the field of psychology, you would use the information from the article to inform your professional behavior.
