Write a 4-5 page analysis paper with two additional templates in which you evaluate team member performance at the practicum site, including your own, against best practices of effective health care teams. Recommend evidence-based strategies to improve your performance and the performance of other team members. Introduction Team effectiveness is a phrase we all use, but all define differently. For this assessment, we will define team effectiveness as: “The capacity a group of individuals has to accomplish their own and their shared goals and objectives” (Katzenbach, & Smith, 1993). This definition clearly acknowledges duality. Teams are groups with shared goals. Simultaneously and unavoidably, teams consist of individuals; each individual has goals of his or her own. Every team member has three responsibilities to ensure the proper balance between shared and individual goals: Commit to the team’s shared goals. If you cannot make that commitment, do not be on the team. Meet your individual needs. You need to be able to be assertive, state what you need, and find ways to pursue your doctoral project’s goals in accordance with the team’s pursuit of the shared goal. Support every other team member. This means considering and even accommodating others, at times, so that they can accomplish their goals. Even a strong doctoral project with a precisely delineated project charter can fail if the team implementing the project is poorly functioning. The same holds true for any project, work or otherwise. To help ensure the completion, quality, and effectiveness of your doctoral project, in this assessment you will write a 4- to 5-page analysis paper—with two templates. In your paper, you will: Describe evidence-based practices of effective health care teams. Evaluate team member performance at your practicum site, including your own, against these best practices. Recommend evidence-based strategies to improve less than optimal team behaviors, including your own. Remember that you too are a member of this team. Devoting time, energy, and attention to your personal development in this area is a building block for extending your influence. You can only lead or influence others to the extent you can lead yourself. Reference Katzenbach, J. R., & Smith, D. K. (1993). The wisdom of teams: Creating the high-performance organisation. Demonstration of Proficiency By successfully completing this assessment, you will demonstrate your proficiency in the course competencies through the following assessment scoring guide criteria: Competency 3: Apply relationship-building values and principles of team dynamics to plan, deliver and evaluate patient/population-centered care, health programs, and policies that are safe, timely, effective, effective and equitable. Describe evidence-based best practices of effective health care teams. Analyze team performance at practicum site against best practices of effective health care teams. Recommend evidence-based strategies to improve less than optimal team behaviors that could negatively impact project completion, effectiveness, and quality. Assess personal performance against best practices of effective health care teams. Recommend evidence-based strategies to address less than optimal personal team behaviors that could negatively affect project completion, effectiveness, and quality. Competency 4: Address assessment purpose in a well-organized text, incorporating appropriate evidence and tone in grammatically sound sentences. Create a clear, well-organized, professional analysis paper that uses appropriate tone and is generally free from errors in grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Integrate relevant sources to support arguments, correctly formatting citations and references using APA style. Preparation To successfully prepare for this assessment, you will need to conduct independent research on team best practices in a health care setting. In addition, you will want to conduct independent research into evidence-based strategies for improving team and individual performance: Ensure that your research examines current resources available through peer-reviewed articles and professional and government websites. These research guides can help you identify scholarly and authoritative sources: Nursing Doctoral (DNP) Research Guide Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing & Health Sciences Seek out free writing workshops and other resources available through the Capella Writing Center. The Writing Center’s workshops address such topics as: correct APA usage, paper organization, synthesis of material, and so on. Note: Remember that this keystone course will help determine whether you are ready to proceed with your doctoral project. You will want to do everything you can to ensure that your critical thinking, research, and writing skills are at the doctoral level. Instructions Note: The assessments in this course must be completed in the order presented; subsequent assessments should be built on both your earlier work and your instructor’s feedback on earlier assessments. If you choose to submit assessments prematurely, without considering and integrating your instructor’s feedback, your assessment may be returned ungraded, resulting in your loss of an assessment attempt. Include the following headings in your paper and be sure to address the bullets underneath each heading. Introduction In brief, what is your project about and why does it matter? Who are the key stakeholders at your practicum site? Where is your practicum site located? What makes your practicum site unique? How is your practicum site diverse? When will your project be completed? Best Practices of Effective Health Care Teams According to your research, what are the key best practices that effective health care teams demonstrate? You will transfer the best practices you identify here to the Analysis of Practicum Site Team Effectiveness Template. Analysis of Practicum Site Team Effectiveness Note: Use the Practicum Site Team Effectiveness Template [DOCX] to complete this portion of your paper. Submit this as a separate attachment to the assessment area. In your analysis paper briefly summarize the findings from your template by answering these questions: Overall, how effectively does the practicum site team perform against the identified best practices? What examples support your ratings on the team’s effectiveness? What are areas of concern that may have the potential to derail your doctoral project? Recommendations to Improve Team Effectiveness Note: Use the Practicum Site Team Effectiveness Template [DOCX] to complete this portion of your paper. Submit this as a separate attachment to the assessment area. In your analysis paper briefly summarize the findings from your template by answering this question: For areas of concern, what evidence-based recommendations would you make to improve the team’s effectiveness? Analysis of Individual Performance as a Team Member Note: Use the Individual Performance As a Team Member Template [DOCX] to complete this portion of your paper. Submit this as a separate attachment to the assessment area. In your analysis paper briefly summarize the findings from your template by answering these questions: How effectively do you personally perform against the identified best practices? What examples support the ratings you gave yourself as a team member? What are areas of concern about your individual performance as a team member that may have the potential to derail your doctoral project? Recommendations to Improve Individual Performance As a Team Member Note: Use the Individual Performance As a Team Member Template [DOCX] to complete this portion of your paper. Submit this as a separate attachment to the assessment area. In your analysis paper briefly summarize the findings from your template by answering this question: What evidence-based recommendations would you make to improve your individual performance as a team member? Note: Please use the information you learned from completing this assessment to inform your work on the project charter assessment. This will be particularly helpful to you as you complete Parts 1 (Project Team) and Part 3 (SWOT Analysis and Constraints). Additional Requirements Written communication: Ensure written communication is free of errors that detract from the overall message.
