COMM1133 Writing Strategies : Micro-Research Essay

Your next challenge in COMM1133 is to plan and to write another micro-research essay article or blog post with citations in APA format (in-text and end-text) of 1-2 pages double spaced – approximately 600 words.

You will not be completing your own research for this short article as the focus is on writing, as well as in-text and end-text citations. In this submission, you must master and apply PARAPHRASES instead of direct quotes. (SEE WEEK 10 FOLDER FOR GUIDANCE).

For success in this assignment, follow the steps summarized weekly in the Project Three Folders (weeks 9-12). AS ALWAYS, you must review the supports before emailing me to ask your specific questions.

Topic Options: For this micro essay you must choose one of my topics/prompts and use any 2 of the articles/videos I have posted for your topic in your section. Making up your own topics or using your own articles will result in a grade of zero for academic misconduct. If you would like to adjust the topics, there will not be a practice shot so please email me your questions by the end of week 11!

Format:  By now you should be familiar with our Submission’s Guidelines. APA format is designed for hard core research assignments, so in this case, format your submission as you always have – identification (top left) and save it properly. This time I ask you include your research question and your reader hashtag in the identification as well.

Double space, indent paragraphs (no extra spaces between) and follow the APA guidelines for in-text citations and the Reference Page. Use a readable typeface, in sz. 11-12 (see our own submissions guidelines or APA guidelines) and no fancy footwork – so no borders, watermarks, images or selfies.  I will provide a word document for you to use as an outline. I will accept (Word or PDF only) and no condensed or zipped files, please. There is a video in the project 2 folder reviewing submission format expectations.

A.P.A. Citations: Use APA format for your in-text and end-text citations (References). You may only submit paraphrases in this submission. I am not accepting direct quotes for this submission.

Structure:  This submission should have an introduction, 2 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The reference page should be on a separate page. There is no reason to use sub-headings for a short submission like this; however, I ask you to highlight your thesis statement, and to provide the actual quotes you have taken from the sources which you have paraphrased in your article. The quotes can be copied and pasted, or screen shot and inserted into the final page of the document.

If you can write a short article based on two sources using APA format for in-text and end-text citations, you will be ready for the exam, which is a similar challenge. You will also be prepared to face the more extensive research assignments you will have at Niagara College and/or university in second term courses and beyond. My goal is that there is no Academic Misconduct for either submission! If that I the case, I will do a cartwheel in the last live – which is the tradition.
