Topic: Choose one artwork from any time period in American Art that can be interpreted in a way that has to do with either gender and/or sexuality. This could relate to the gender/sexuality of the artist or perhaps has more to do with the subject matter portrayed and how it reflects gendered expectations/roles for its time.Analyze the artwork(s) according to known cultural and historical contexts. Does the art reflect the prevailing ideas of the day? Does it challenge prescribed roles or behaviors?
Research: You must use a minimum of three sources, one of which will be a scholarly article.
Format: MLA as always. Review guidelines in the syllabus. Avoid the narrative approach in writing.
Documentation: MLA parenthetical citations AND a Works Cited Page. Any paper that is turned in without proper documentation will be given a failing grade.
