BBP381 Standards of Practice and Limitations

Task:

In clinical practice, a practitioner often utilizes a combination of methods during a functional behaviour assessment (FBA) for problem behaviour. The practitioner often relies on his/her clinical expertise and/or experiences when deciding what method to use for a particular client profile (i.e. dimension of behaviour, environment).
This assignment requires you to learn more about a specific method; its application, effectiveness and limitations, and present your findings to your peers and professor.

In small groups (2-4), pick a method (from the list below) and deliver a 15-minute (maximum)
presentation due on Wednesday December 1st 2021.
Presentations can be either (1) presented live during class or (2) pre-recorded and played for the group during class. If your group chooses to pre-record your presentation be prepared to share the information live if for some reason the recording doesn’t work.
Presentations will be in the order that the assessment methods are listed below.
Pick ONE assessment method from the list below and sign up for that group in Blackboard under ‘Group Presentation Sign up’ Do this early on, as each topic can be chosen by one group only. Assessment Methods
Indirect Functional Behaviour Assessments – Interviews & Questionnaires Functional Assessment Interview (FAI) (O’Neill et al)
Questions About Behavioral Function (QABF)
Motivation Assessment Scale (MAS)
Functional Assessment Screening Tool (FAST)
Problem Behavior Questionnaire (PBQ)
Open-Ended Functional Assessment Interview (Hanley et al)
Direct – Descriptive Functional Behaviour Assessment
ABC Narrative Recording
ABC Checklist
Direct – Experimental
Precursor Functional Analysis
Latency Functional Analysis
Answer/address the following in your presentation (please see the rubric for specifics)
Overview of the method:
• Who developed this method? (if relevant)
• When was this method developed?/when was it first used/published?
• What is the client profile intended for this method?
• How is this method administered?
• Report on 2 strengths and 2 limitations of the method Effectiveness of the method:
• Find 2 scholarly articles that demonstrate the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of the method for identifying the function(s) of behaviour
• How was the method used in the article(s)?
• Describe briefly (point form) (i) the participants, (ii) settings, (iii) administrators of the method (e.g., graduate students, clinicians, caregivers), and (iv) outcomes Application of the method:
• Provide a case study and demonstrate to the class how you would use the method giving consideration to individual and environmental variables (i.e. age, diagnosis, topography and or intensity of behaviour, environment, caregivers)
